HomeAide Home Care announced today the release of a comprehensive resource designed to help East Bay veterans navigate and access free VA-funded home care services. The Hayward-based home care provider developed the resource to simplify the enrollment process for eligible veterans in Alameda County and surrounding communities who qualify for no-cost in-home care through the VA’s Home and Community Care Program.
The resource provides veterans and their families with detailed information about eligibility requirements, service availability, and step-by-step instructions for accessing care through the VA Palo Alto Health Care System’s Homemaker and Home Health Aide program. Veterans approved for the program typically receive six to 20 hours per week of in-home care services at no cost when authorized by their VA Primary Care Provider.
“Many veterans in our community don’t realize they qualify for free home care services through the VA,” said Robert Young, General Manager of HomeAide Home Care. “We created this resource to remove the confusion and help veterans access the benefits they’ve earned. These services can make a tremendous difference in helping veterans remain safe and independent in their own homes.”
HomeAide Home Care has served as a VA-approved provider for more than a decade, working directly with the VA Palo Alto Health Care System to deliver care to veterans throughout Hayward, Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Fremont, Newark, and Union City. VA-approved services provided by HomeAide Home Care include personal care assistance such as bathing, dressing, and grooming support, help with mobility and transferring, companionship and respite support for family caregivers, light meal preparation and housekeeping, medication reminders and daily wellness check-ins, and specialized support for veterans with dementia or memory-related challenges.
The resource outlines the three-step process for veterans to access services. Veterans must first contact their VA Primary Care Provider and request an assessment for the Homemaker and Home Health Aide Program under the VA’s Home and Community Care services. Once approved, the VA care coordinator connects the veteran with a community provider like HomeAide Home Care. Services are then provided at no cost to the veteran when authorized by the VA, with hourly care schedules based on individual need and eligibility.
